The Role in a Nutshell:

We are looking for an experienced and passionate payroll professional with a can-do attitude to join our payroll team in Nottingham initially on a Fixed Term Contract to support with a project. Working as part of a fast paced team and within a wider HR Function you will provide a professional, high quality service. You will be responsible for effectively and consistently operating payroll procedures and payroll related pension procedures in a timely and accurate manner as determined by the Company Payroll Policy for all employees. You will be able to operate Oracle payroll/HR system in accordance with the current controls and procedures. 


As a Payroll Officer you will have a keen eye for detail and a desire for accuracy of employee pay. You will have a strong understanding of legislation to ensure pay is compliant with HMRC and third party regulations. You will be confident in communication with a variety of departments in order to achieve our desired goals. 


What you'll be doing:

  • Accurately prepare payroll for 14,000 4-weekly paid and 1,300 monthly paid colleagues, taking direct responsibility for a specific subset of colleagues. 
  • Analyse and verify all payroll and pension documentation received from authorised parties prior to payroll processing. 
  • Analyse, verify and reconcile the payroll output on a weekly basis. Compare data to previous periods to highlight discrepancies. 
  • Identify, investigate and resolve any payroll discrepancies using payroll reports, and working across teams where necessary to rectify any issues. 

  • Ensure that payment of wages/salaries is processed correctly into employee’s bank accounts on the due date according to the company's timetable. 

  • Clearly and professionally respond to escalated queries using the Case Management system, in accordance with quality and competency frameworks.  
What we need from you:
    • Competent with spreadsheets and with handling and analysing large volumes of data.
    • Excellent mathematical skills.
    • Comprehensive knowledge of PAYE/NIC and statutory payments and recoveries.
    • Familiarity with benefits and other wage deductions.
    • Knowledge of payroll procedures.
    • Familiarity with Oracle Cloud HCM payroll software (preferred).
    • Proficiency with MS Office. Strong Excel Skills (Vlookup, Pivot table, etc).
    • Experience working with a case management system.
    • Multi-tasking abilities.
    • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
    • Ability to work to a deadline under pressure with minimum supervision. Being able to prioritise and have excellent time management and organisational skills.
    • Ability to work in a team towards the same goal, building beneficial long-term relationships internally and externally to achieve the desired results.
