The Role in a Nutshell:
Reporting to the Payroll Assurance Team Manager, you will sit within a team responsible for payroll compliance and reporting across multiple in-house and outsourced payrolls. You will assist with the periodic and annual HMRC reporting responsibilities, payroll data auditing processes, and the reporting of payroll data for the wider business. The team is also responsible for the management of the outsourced payroll processes, and you will support with data gathering and reporting along with analysis of payroll outputs from the outsource partner on a monthly basis. You will be highly professional, with a keen eye for detail, and be able to analyse and present data clearly and effectively.
What you'll be doing?
    • Assisting with production of payroll costing outputs on a periodic basis, including data sharing with internal Finance Services team for reconciliation purposes
    • First line query handling from internal Finance teams
    • Assisting with HMRC reporting, including reconciliation of monthly PAYE pay over figures
    • First line query handling from HMRC
    • Assisting with data gathering and analysis for annual P11D and PSA submissions to HMRC
    • Completing periodic payroll data auditing processes – compiling audit review reports and querying data with HR Shared Services/Payroll teams where necessary
    • Assisting with completion of payroll reconciliation audit processes  gathering data and compiling reports for review on a periodic basis
    • Supporting data gathering for annual external audit of payroll data across all payrolls
    • Working with Payroll/HR Information Systems teams on testing of year-end legislative upgrade for in-house payroll system (Oracle Cloud)
    • Extracting pre- and post-payroll reports and assisting with data gathering for monthly outsourced payrolls
    • Validation of periodic input data and uploading to outsourced payroll partner
    • Analysis of payroll outputs from outsourced payroll partner and supporting query handling
    • Supporting with data gathering and analysis across all payrolls for ad hoc payroll data requests from various areas of the business
    • Staying up to speed with payroll impacting legislation/best practices to allow ongoing analysis to identify possible areas of improvement
    • Contribute to process improvement initiatives and support the writing of the associated documentation, including process maps, work instructions and ‘how to guides
    • Any other supporting tasks deemed necessary within the role
  • What we need from you:
    • Graduate CIPP / working towards a CIPP or equivalent qualification desirable or relevant payroll experience

    • Good understanding of UK employment tax legislation, its application and best practice. US is a plus

    • A broad understanding of payroll processes. An understanding of outsourced payroll processes would be ideal but not essential

    • Strong communication and written skills

    • Intermediate level Excel skills (complex formulas, vlookups, pivot tables) is desirable

    • Experience of Oracle HR and Payroll systems

    • Good problem solving and data analytical skills

    • Minimum of 3 years experience working in a payroll role covering all aspects of payroll processing

    • Experience of working on a large volume payroll

    • Experience of working in a Shared Service Centre
