About The Role
Act as a trusted business partner: assisting accounting, procurement, legal, commercial, regulatory andother colleagues in understanding, in plain English, the VAT, GST and gambling tax considerations oftheir work and the impact on the wider business. 
Supervise the work of Indirect Tax Advisers and Managers and other junior members of staff both in thewider tax team and broader finance function
Work closely with other members of the broader tax team on a range of special projects which requireinternational indirect tax expertise, such as M&A, corporate restructuring, dispute resolution, indirect taxanalysis of new products and addressing the indirect tax consequences of entry into new markets.
Review and sign-off VAT, GST and gambling tax returns for a variety of jurisdictions prepared byIndirect Tax Advisers and Managers and other finance colleagues, to ensure quality control, reduce therisk of incorrect filings, and help the business comply with its international indirect tax obligations.
Support the professional development of junior members of staff, including delivering formal technicaltraining, providing mentoring, and tutoring and coaching members of staff undertaking professionalqualifications such as the CTA.
Manage relationships with external advisers around the world, such as Big 4 accounting firms and lawfirms, to ensure the business obtains relevant and useful advice on complex and contentious issueswithin the available budget. 
Provide specialist input to governance and risk management processes (such as Senior AccountingOfficer in the UK) and tax authority audits. 
Identify and implement opportunities to streamline and create more scalable indirect tax returnprocesses to improve the efficiency of the indirect tax team and to comply with new data handling,retention and filing obligations (such as the “Making Tax Digital” requirements in the UK).
Stay up-to-date with international developments in indirect taxes, such as the introduction of newtaxes, changes to existing legislation and case law developments, in order to identify and communicaterisks and opportunities for the business and help shape the business’s response to these changes.
Develop and maintain relationships with tax authorities, tax peers and advisers, including representingthe business at meetings with tax authorities, industry forums and trade bodies.
Additional Information
  • Qualified Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) and Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT) member
  • 5+ years PQE gained in a Top 10 accountancy practice and/or Multinational Enterprise
  • Excellent VAT/GST technical knowledge, including proven experience of:
  • Partial exemptiono VAT on cross-border transactions
  • VAT on Electronically Supplied Services (ESS) / digital services
  • Experience working with ERP systems (preferably Oracle Cloud/Fusion)
  • Confident designing, reviewing and working with Excel-based tax returns
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with a variety of internal stakeholders (such asfinance, legal and commercial colleagues) and external stakeholders (such as tax authoritiesand industry peers) and be recognised as a trusted expert
  • Excellent written and spoken English
